Alfredton Rotary is in Ballarat, Victoria and we have several programs that help us connect our community with the environment, including the development of a new park. The Rotary Centennial Park involves our community in planting and maintaining trees and providing ideas for further development.
Our Walk Against Waste is a project designed to encourage people to clean up their local area during current lockdowns and into the future. We have noticed that many people are enjoying walking around their local community, so by supplying pick up grabbers & identifying drop off points throughout the community we hope that they will take the opportunity to clean as they go. This is a great chance to enhance their environment, demonstrate pride in their town and keep fit – a walk against waist as well as waste!
The plan is to have people register their interest and receive a rubbish grabber and a map highlighting the location of rubbish bins. Participants are encouraged to send a picture of themselves picking up or disposing of rubbish and each month a random picture will be chosen to be displayed on our social media, with a prize going to that winning person.
Because of our current covid-19 restrictions we will have a small event (max 10 people) to launch the program at Rotary Centennial Park, Mullawallah Wetlands, Ballarat, 10am Saturday 18 September and participants will be asked to stagger their arrival time. Participants will be asked to make a donation of $5 to participate in this program.
