Clean Brazil Institute, sponsored by Transpetro and supported by the Ministry of Culture, held the opening and awards ceremony for the Clean Brazil 2025 Photography Contest in November 2025, a project approved under the Federal Law for Cultural Incentive (Lei Rouanet).

The initiative formed part of the national celebrations for World Cleanup Day, the largest environmental mobilisation on the planet, and marked a moment of unity between art, environmental education, and collective action.

Uniting Brazil Through the Lens of Sustainability

The contest invited citizens from all regions of the country—amateurs passionate about photography and the environment—to capture their actions and perspectives during World Cleanup Day, between 16 and 22 September.

The submitted images portrayed three main themes:

  • Collective Action: groups participating in clean-up and environmental conservation efforts.
  • Individual Action: people who, on their own, decided to make a difference.
  • Nature Impacted: records of the consequences of improper waste disposal.

In total, the contest received 458 valid photographs from across the country. The participating audience was diverse, with an average age of 37, and a strong presence of adults aged 35 to 54, alongside significant engagement from young people and teenagers.

A National Movement with Record Engagement

The public voting phase mobilised the entire country, generating 25,171 votes on the contest’s official website, originating from 24,778 unique IP addresses, ensuring the representativeness and fairness of the process.

Among the finalists, one inspiring fact stood out: five of the winners are teachers, and virtually all participants demonstrated a direct connection to the environment, whether through their profession, academic background, or personal vocation.

Fifteen National Winners

The 15 winning photographs, with three from each region of Brazil, were selected by a technical jury and by public vote. The images express different perspectives on the relationship between human beings and the environment, revealing the power of art as a tool for raising awareness.

The winners received state-of-the-art laptops, smartphones, and tablets—prizes chosen to support the development of their creativity and photographic talent.

Awards and Exhibition at COP30

The opening and awards ceremony took place on 11 November in Belém (PA), the host city of COP30, at the Freezone—Praça da Bandeira, with the presence of representatives from Instituto Limpa Brasil, Transpetro, EarthDay South America, the State Department of Education of Pará (SEDUC), and other institutional partners.

The event also featured a special message from Heidi Solba, global president of the Let's Do It World movement, speaking directly from Estonia and celebrating Brazil’s leading role in global environmental mobilisation.

The award-winning photographs form part of the national exhibition Clean Brazil 2025, open to the public during the COP30 period, from 10 to 21 November, at the People—Relationship Zone (Freezone) in Belém. Each piece includes audio description in Portuguese and English, making the exhibition accessible and educational for all visitors.

A Legacy of Art and Awareness

More than a contest, the Clean Brazil Photography Contest 2025 was an invitation to reflect on the impact of our daily actions. Each submitted photograph represents a gesture of care for the planet and reaffirms the collective commitment to building a cleaner, fairer and more sustainable future.

In line with the Let’s Do It World movement’s global campaign—“Strive for Five”, which seeks to mobilise at least 5% of the world’s population—Brazil once again demonstrated its strength, uniting thousands of people around environmental and cultural transformation.
