One of Bulgaria’s leading media companies, bTV Media Group, has taken a unique leadership role in organising World Cleanup Day 2024, driving the country’s largest-ever cleanup effort with over 282,000 volunteers, including nearly 700 educational institutions. For 12 years, bTV's ‘Let’s Clean Bulgaria Together’ campaign has united communities to tackle waste pollution, this year focusing on cleaning rivers, lakes, and coastlines. bTV’s initiative, which is part of the company’s social brand "The Good Example", shows how media can be a powerful force for environmental action, moving beyond simply reporting to inspiring real change.

Cambodia’s participation in World Cleanup Day 2024 was exceptional in its widespread collaboration between the government and civil society. Under the leadership of Sovann Nou, World Cleanup Day country leader and Executive Director of River Ocean Cleanup, the event was co-organised by seven ministries. With satellite cleanups chaired by the governors of all 24 provinces and the support of key sponsors, Cambodia engaged communities nationwide, working collectively for a cleaner, healthier, waste-free future. This large-scale, unified effort showcased how cross-sector collaboration can lead to lasting environmental change.

Let’s Do It Taiwan partners at the National Taiwan Ocean University have identified a new species of bacteria, Oceanimonas pelagia, which has shown potential to break down polyethylene (PE)—degrading it by 10-15% over 120 days. On 22 September, hundreds of volunteers, led by Let’s Do It Guinea and Junior Chamber International, gathered at Takonko Beach in Ratoma to clean up their environment, with support from community leaders and national media coverage. The event coincided with the announcement of a national ban on single-use plastics, and sparked commitments to hold ongoing cleanups every two weeks and the creation of a community association for environmental protection. Whole 193 Member States of the UN Habitat General Assembly of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme in Nairobi, adopted the resolution positively and recommends that the UN General Assembly proclaim the date of 20 September as World Cleanup Day, to be observed annually from 2024 onwards. The fourth Digital Cleanup Day held March 19 2023 organized by Let’sDo It World (“LDIW”) brought nearly 400 000 participants from 108 countries whom together deleted nearly 4M GB of data. By deleting the data, 1.7M kg of CO2 is saved yearly. Of the 108 countries participated, most data was deleted by participants from France, Indonesia, United States, Estonia and United Kingdom.
