20 September 2025 marks World Cleanup Day, and this year's ‘Strive for Five’ campaign aims to engage 5% of the global population in coordinated environmental action.
Let's Do It World (LDIW), the organisation behind this UN-recognised International Day, is calling for unprecedented global participation. The ambitious goal targets engaging 5% of every country's population based on research showing this threshold can create tipping points for lasting societal change.
Over seven years, World Cleanup Day has mobilised more than 114 million people across 211 countries. Since 2024, it has held official status on the UN Calendar of International Days through collaboration between host countries, UN-Habitat, and LDIW.
The movement extends beyond waste removal, focusing on transformation through community engagement, environmental awareness, and behavioral change. Organisations worldwide are being invited to participate as partners in various capacities.
The success of World Cleanup Day depends on organisations like yours stepping forward to lead by example. When businesses, institutions, and communities unite for our planet, we don't just clean up—we transform the world.
Together, we're not just striving for five percent—we're striving for the transformation our planet needs. Because when positive-minded organisations unite for our planet, extraordinary change becomes possible.
